1 onion, chopped
6 slices bacon
1 garlic cloves, minced
1 head cabbage, cored and chopped
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 apple, chopped, optional
(Gala, Honey Crisp, Granny Smith)

In a large frying pan or Dutch oven, cook bacon until crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels. Reserve 2 T bacon grease in pan. Cook onion until soft. Add garlic and cook 1 minute. Add apple. Stir in chopped cabbage and stir well and add salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and sugar, Put on a lid and continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes depending on how well done you want your cabbage. Add bacon at the very end.

Cabbage will fill the pan but will cook way down.
