1.5 cups boiling water
1 cup quick oatmeal
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1.5 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup raisins

Broiled Frosting: (good on any cake)
1 stick butter
¼ cup milk or cream
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º
Pour boiling water over oatmeal and let stand 20 minutes. Best softened butter and sugars until fluffy, add eggs and then oatmeal. Sift dry ingredients in separate bowl and add to creamed mixture. Stir in dates and raisins. Pour into 9/13 cake pan.

Bake 35-45 minutes

Broiled frosting: (similar to German Chocolate cake frosting)
Bring butter, milk, and sugar to a boil in saucepan. Add coconut and nuts. Pour over cake and broil until top bubbles and it turns light brown (keep oven door aightly ajar and watch carefully)
