Chocolate Buttermilk Brownies Recipe

Ingredients: 1 c. butter (2 sticks) room temperature 1 c. of water 5 tbsp. Cocoa
2 c. sugar 2 c. unbleached all purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. buttermilk 2 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla
Icing: 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter 6 tbsp. of buttermilk 5 tsp. of cocoa powder 1 lb box of powder sugar chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:Start by melting butter in medium sauce pan over medium heat. Stir in water water and cocoa and whisk until smooth.
Combine sugar, flour, salt in medium bowl. Add cocoa mixture to the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, vanilla and mix well. Pour into prepared baking pan (usually use a large cookie sheet pan that has been greased or lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool in pan when remove from the oven.
For the frosting/icing: Melt butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. Add the buttermilk and the cocoa powder and whisk until smooth. Bring to a boil.
Place powder sugar in the bowl of a food processor. With machine running gradually add chocolate mixture through the tube of the machine until mixture is thick. Spread mixture generously over brownies. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if desire. Note: Frosting can be mixed in a bowl if you don't have a food processor. |
