1/2 c. sugar
7 Tbsp. cornstarch or flour
2 1/4 c. milk
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon, if desired
1 baked 8 inch pastry shell

Combine sugar, cornstarch and milk. Cook slowly for 15 minutes. Add egg yolks, stirring constantly. Cook for 3 minutes. While this is cooking, steam the 1/2 cup raisins in 1/4 cup water. Drain. Remove from heat, add brown sugar, vanilla, butter and cinnamon. Add sugar mixture and pour into baked pastry shell. Top with meringue: Beat 3 egg whites until stiff, gradually adding 6 tablespoons sugar. Brown in oven 350º for 12 to 15 minutes.
