Gone to Heaven Chocolate Pie Recipe

sweetened whipped cream or whipped topping
2 Tbsp butter maybe 6T
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
2 c milk chocolate chips (or dark chocolate if you prefer)
1/2 tsp salt
4 egg yolks
3 c milk
2/3 c sugar
1/3 c cornstarch
1 deep dish pie shell or use a 10" pie pan

Directions:

Whisk together the sugar, corn starch and salt.
Whisk well and work out any lumps
Separate 4 room temp eggs
Save egg whites for later for Meringue
Heat up 2 cups of milk, don't let it boil.
Meanwhile add in the one remaining cup of milk to the dry mixture slowly stirring well.
The egg yolks don't go in until all of the milk has been added.
Beat the egg yolks with a fork. Mix in well.
Add the sugar, cornstarch mixture to the pan of warm (not boiling) milk. And stir well.
Add in 1 tsp vanilla.
It will begin to bubble and thicken. Turn down to low heat.
Add in the chocolate chips and stir.
Add in 6 T of real butter. Stir until the butter melts.
Pour into baked crust.
