3 c. beans (1/3 c. each kind)
split peas lima
brown pinto red kidney
navy or northern black-eyed peas
black garbanzo lental
barley

1 meaty ham bone or 5 strips of bacon
1 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. garlic
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 large onion, chopped
1 large can of diced tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse beans; add 2 quarts cold water. Bring to boil; simmer 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand 1 hour. (Or, add beans to water and soak overnight). Do not drain. Add ham bone or bacon, then add chili powder, garlic, and lemon juice. Cover. Simmer 3 to 4 hours. During last hour, add onion and tomatoes, salt and pepper.
