4 fresh tomatoes, in winter use one 14 oz can tomatoes.
salt and pepper,
1 1/2 cups torn bread pieces
1T sugar.

Heat tomatoes until boiling, Add seasons and pour over torn bread.
This is stewed tomatoes.

When using fresh tomatoes, remember to drop tomatoes into boiling water, and into cold water to remove skin. We had this on the table often. My father loved tomatoes and grew many different kinds. I think Beef Steak was his favorite. In the late fall tomatoes were wrapped in old news papers and stored in the basement and kept.
