2 Tbs. margarine or butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1/2 tsp. paprika
1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh basil or 1/2 tsp. dried basil
2 pkgs. (3 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
1 1/4 cups milk
2 cans (10 3/4 ounces each) condensed tomato soup
2 cans (16 ounces each) whole tomatoes, undrained

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Cook onion and garlic in butter for about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally until onion is tender. Remove from heat.

Stir in paprika, basil and cream cheese. Gradually stir in milk and soup. Beat with a beater until smooth. Stir in tomatoes, breaking them up. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until hot.

I like to use an immersion blender after the soup is cooked to get a nice smooth texture.
