1 1/2 c. ham, chopped
Ham bone
3 quarts water
2 c. dried spilt green peas
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 diced medium onion

Directions:
Directions:
In kettle place ham bone (such as that leftover from cooked shank) in 3 quarts water, 2 cups dried spilt green peas, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1 diced medium onion.

Simmer covered, over low heat, 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Remove bone from soup. Cut off any bits of ham. Add to soup along with 1 1/2 cups chopped ham (if you have any leftover).
