1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. flour
1 egg yolk, beaten
Topping
3 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. honey
1 c. almonds, sliced

9" square pan - oven 325º
In mixture bowl, cut butter into flour and sugar for pastry. Stir in beaten egg yolk and vanilla. Finely work into a ball with hands. Press enough dough onto bottom and 1/2 " up sides of pan. Bake about 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, in small pan, heat butter and milk until butter is melted. Add sugar, honey and almonds and stir well. Spread over partly cooked pastry. Return to oven and bake another 20-30 minutes until golden. Cool on rack 15 minutes. Cut in squares and leave in pan until completely cooled. Freezes well.
