Apple Gingerbread Recipe

2-3 apples
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
3/4 cup molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Core, peel, and slice apples, and arrange pieces in a shallow baking pan (e.g. 9"x9").
Sift together: flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, soda, and salt.
Pour boiling water over shortening, and allow shortening to melt.
Beat together egg and molasses.
Then mix in shortening/water mixture.
Mix in the dry ingredients, and beat until smooth.
Pour gingerbread batter over apples.
Bake about 30 minutes.
