¾ Cup Shortening
1 ½ Cups Brown Sugar (Firmly Packed)
3 Eggs
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 ½ Teaspoons Cinnamon
½ Teaspoon Cloves
½ Teaspoon Allspice
Dash of Salt
¾ Cup All Purpose Flour
3 Squares Unsweetened Chocolate (3 oz)
1 Cup Slivered or Chopped Nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Start your oven at 375 or moderate and grease an 11x17x1 ½ baking pan. Work shortening until soft and light. Add sugar gradually and continue working until creamy. Add unbeaten eggs and beat hard, then dump in vanilla extract, spices, salt, flour and mix well. Last of all stir in melted chocolate and nuts. Pour into baking pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes. Sprinkle with a little confectioner’s sugar if you like and cut into thin bars while still warm. Remove from pan when cool. Makes about 30 bars.
