Directions:Melt margarine/butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Cook over low heat for 3 minutes longer (5 minutes longer if using marshmallow creme), stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated. Using a buttered spatula or waxed paper, press mixture evenly into a buttered 13x9x2 pan. Cut into two inch squares when completely cool. Note: 1 10 oz. package marshmallows = 40 large marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows or 2 cups marshmallow creme. Best results are obtained when using fresh marshmallows. Variations: 0. Add 1/4C. peanut butter when adding the marshmallows. 1. For thicker squares, press warm mixture into a buttered 9x9x2 pan. 2. Add 1 cup salted cocktail peanuts with the cereal for Peanut Krispy Treats. 3. Omit peanut butter and add 1 cup seedless raisins with the cereal for Raisin Treats 4. For Cocoa Krispy Treats, omit peanut butter and substitute Cocoa Krispies for Rice Krispies. 5. There are lots of other things you can add with the cereal, a cup of M and M''s, a cup or Reese''s pieces, chocolate chips..use your imagination. 6. After cutting them in squares put a popsicle stick in each square. Dip them into the chocolate syrup and put them on a big piece of waxed paper until the syrup hardens. 7. Banana Nut Treats: Add 3 tb. Instant Banana Pudding Mix and 2 teas. Walnut Flavoring when you add the cereal. 8. Cheerios Treats: Replace Rice Krispies w/ 5C. Cheerios. 9. Crisp Cherry Pops: Add 1-4 serving pkg cherry jello powder to marg. and marshmallow when melting. With wet hands, press mixture into paper cups; insert stick in center of each. Let stand until set. To serve, remove paper cups. Makes 12. |
