3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. soda
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Oven: 375º
Melt shortening in a 4 qt. saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and cool. Add sugar, molasses and eggs. Beat well. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices. Add to first mixture and mix well. Chill dough. To bake, form in 1-inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
