1 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oats
1/2 c. chopped nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer raisins & water over medium heat until raisins are plum, about 15 minutes. Drain raisins, reserving liquid. Add enough water to reserved liquid to make 1/2 cup.
Heat oven to 400º Mix thoroughly shortening, surgar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in raisins & reserved liquid. Blen in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until light brown.
