2 Tbsp butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp soda
2 cups flour
1 cup raisins (optional)
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup milk

Topping:
6 cups water
2 cups brown sugar
1 cube butter

Directions:
Directions:

Mix all ingredients (except for topping) and thoroughly combine. Pour in a deep baking dish. Prepare liquid topping as directed below and carefully pour over all. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

Topping:
Blend water, brown sugar, and butter together in a pan and bring to a boil. Let simmer.

I have made Down Home pudding too many times to tell during the years. The source has been lost in obscurity. Nice on a cold winter night, but good any time. Easy to whip up, because the ingredients are ones usually found in a the kitchen.
