Directions:
Boil potatoes, then peel and mash.
Add farina, flour, salt and egg. Work dough well.
With hands dusted in flour, form several 2x6-inch cylindrical dumplings.
Boil salted water in a large pot. Add the dumplings to the briskly boiling water and cook for 20 minutes, making sure they do not stick to the bottom or to each other.
Remove from the water and slice into one of them to make sure the dumplings are cooked through.

Serve with Butter and Onions.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
These have been served every New Year's Day since I can remember. My mother (Mildred Sekera) never had a recipe that she followed. A handful of this and a handful of that was her recipe.

The only family member that could make these like Granny Sekera was my Mother. Now that my Mother has passed my sister Pat Edmonds has taken over the making of the Sekera New Year's Dumplings.

Patty's daughter Kristen Powell and my daughter JoAnn Gilch are now learning how to make them.

We need the tradition to carry on for many more years.
***** About 150 - 200 of these dumplings are made every New Year's Day *****
