1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses


2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt,
1 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloves, ginger
1 cup hot water
sweetened whipped cream

Directions:

cream butter,gradually adding sugar,beating until light and fluffy, add egg and molasses, mix well.

combine flour and next 5 ingredients, add to creamed mixture alternately with hot water. beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition.

Pour batter into a lightly greased and floured 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until tooth pick comes out clean. Don't over bake.
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
