4 cups flour
2 teas. salt
1 1/2 cups shortening
1/2 teas. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the flour, salt and cream of tartar together. Using a pastry blender, add the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle 10 to 12 tablespoons ice water into mixture, mixing lightly with fork until pastry is just moist enough to hold together. With hands, shape pastry into ball. Divide into 2 pieces, roll on lightly floured surface.
