"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

Directions:
Open and pour the can of crushed pineapple into a 9*13 in cake pan level out with a spatula or a large spoon. Open and gently pour in the cherry pie filling on to the crushed pineapple and do the same level off with a spatula or a large cooking spoon. Now gently and evenly pour the dry yellow cake mix over the top of the fruit. DO NOT STIR

Now either melt the butter and pour evenly over the dry cake mix or cut up into chunks and drop evenly over the top of the dry cake mix If using nuts sprinkle over the top of the cake.1 1/2 sticks makes cake on the firm side and 2 sticks makes the cake a little looser. My children love it both ways.

Bake at 350º for 50 minutes to 1 hr or until cake is bubbling and golden brown. Serve warm but (not hot). Serve with a scoop of ice cream. yummy! Enjoy.
