1 c. quick oats
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c. raisins or nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Pour 1 1/4 c. boiling water over oats and let cool. Cream together sugars and shortening. Add eggs and oats and mix well. Add dry ingredients. Bake at 350º for 30-40 min.

Aunt Elsie's Topping:
6 tbsp butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 c. Milnot

Cook to boil. Remove from heat. Add 1 c. coconut and 1 c. nuts (optional). Put on cake and broil until bubbly and slightly browned.

Jordan's favorite! He says it tastes better the second day. If you like, you can double the topping recipe.

The topping recipe came from Aunt Elsie Strange, who was Grandma Kelsay's sister-in-law.
