1 loaf French bread
8 extra large eggs
3 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla (not an error!)
4-6 medium cooking apples
Topping:
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg

Butter
Warmed maple syrup

Directions:
Directions:
Slice bread into slices 1 1/2 inches wide. Place together tightly in a 9 x 13 baking dish that has been sprayed with non stick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, beat eggs, milk, 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla for 30 seconds. Pour half of mixture over bread.
Peel, core and slice apples. Place slices on top of bread to cover all of it.
Pour other half of egg mixture over the apples.
Mix topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over top of apples. Dot with butter (optional) Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Uncover in the morning and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Serve with warmed maple syrup.
